Sporting Goods National Runners' Month launches RunnersUnite! iPhone App
Pittsburgh,
Pa., April 27, 2010 -- Dick's Sporting Goods National Runners' Month, a
major running initiative scheduled for May, today announced the launch of the
Dick's Sporting Goods RunnersUnite! iPhone application,
now available for free download at the Apple App Store. The app has already seen over
10,000 downloads before any major promotion and will also be featured in the Foursquare app gallery.
RunnersUnite! helps
runners easily connect with other runners in their social media networks.
Runners can use the application to let friends know about upcoming runs and
invite others to run with them. RunnersUnite! also helps runners find popular
running routes in their area and see where people are running nearby in real
time. As an added bonus, users that install the RunnersUnite! application will
be able to opt in for special promotions from Dick's Sporting Goods on popular
running gear.
RunnersUnite!
integrates Twitter and Facebook accounts with Foursquare, an increasingly
popular mobile application platform that mixes social, locative, and gaming
elements to encourage people to explore their surroundings. The application
runs on Apple's iPhone and new iPad.
RunnersUnite!
promotes running and the motivational benefits of running with friends,
according to Dick's Sporting Goods National Runners' Month organizers. The
application also showcases the closest Dicks Sporting Goods to your current
location.

Today's
RunnersUnite! launch follows on the heels of several recent announcements from
Dicks Sporting Goods National Runners' Month, including announcement of ten
major race sponsorships, the initiative's charitable partnership with the
Michael J. Fox Foundation's Team Fox to raise
funds and awareness for Parkinson's disease, and the naming of running legends
Dean Karnazes and Bart Yasso as official ambassadors for Dick's Sporting Goods
National Runners' Month.
